Wings of Color is a 12x24x1.5 oil on canvas of a Great Blue Heron in a contemporary, semi-abstract style. The graceful S-curve of its neck creates a sense of movement and balance, while loose, energetic brushstrokes suggest the softness and texture of its feathers rather than rendering every detail.
A rich palette of deep blues, teals, charcoal grays, warm browns, and soft pinks brings the heron’s plumage to life. Bold, layered strokes and visible brushwork create depth and vitality, conveying both strength and delicacy. White highlights accent the bird’s distinctive facial markings and wispy crest feathers, drawing the viewer’s eye to its alert expression.
While inspired by the Great Blue Heron, this artwork is ultimately a celebration of the beauty, diversity, and individuality found throughout the avian world—and in all living beings. Just as every bird possesses its own unique colors, markings, and characteristics, each of us brings something distinctive to the world. Our differences are not flaws to be hidden but gifts that enrich our communities and strengthen the whole.
